    Kynaptic? Where is it?

Total newbie here. Installed kubuntu 6.06 - i386. Tried "sudo apt-get install kynaptic". Got this:

    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package kynaptic

Then tried to get Synaptic from Debian site. Everytime I downloaded, Kate snapped it up, said it was binary and would be corrupted if I tried to save. Went into Konqueror and set *.deb association to Adept. Kate still grabbed it.

Also asked Adept for both Kynaptic and Synaptic - it found nothing.

Open Adept, in the top left corner click on adept, then click on Manage Reposotories.

you will see a bunch of lines like this
      deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main
      deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main

right click on the greyed out ones and select enable. Once you have enabled everything click apply at the bottom middle, then click close bottom right.

Now click Fetch Updates top left, after it updates, then search for your package.

to Prevent Kate from opening a file, right click the dload link and select Save Link As

        Thanks - I'll try it.

Sorry for posting in an old thread.

          It worked. Running Synaptic now.

Don't need to download a *.deb, so I hope I remember your second piece of advice....
