KParted and/or recovery CD to remove XP, as well as Wine help for Zune software

So, as some of you know, I'm duel-booting Kubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP at the same time. I am quite unhappy with my windows XP. In fact, I am so unhappy with it that I want to remove it. I have no clue how to use the KParted[and when I tried to install it, I must've done it wrong, because nothing happened, and it gave some messages that stated the installation could not be finished]. I don't know whether to use KParted or to pop the Kubuntu installation CD, and run a "recovery" or something with it.

The only thing keeping me from removing the Windows is that I'm running the Zune software on it. This is related to the Wine question. Is it possible to configure Wine to run the Zune software? And if so, make sure that it doesn't try to take over my computer[I dont' know if this is possible or not though, since it IS Linux...] I like Amarok and Dragon Player, so I don't want to use the Zune software for that, just to connect my Zune media player to it to sync music.

Any help would be appreciated, heres the specs if they are needed:

    Kubuntu 10.10
GRUB-updated to newest is my belief
    Duel-booting XP
Ran software updates within a couple of days, so I should be up-to-date

If there are any questions that need to be asked for needed information, please do.

Thanks in advance for any and all help you can give. I looked through the forums, but didn't see anything that could explain my issues.

According to the Wine AppDB, Zune does not work under wine

You should try installing VirtualBox or VMWare and see if Zune works there before taking the leap.

      I entirely agree with skunk.

      Assuming you have

      A windows CD
Enough free space in your home directory

install either virtualbox (I recommend you get it from the virtualbox website - it's not "Free" software but it has native USB support) or the new VMWare Player.
Create a virtual machine within the chosen application and do an installation of XP within the virtual machine. Then install your Zune software and see if it works. You then have the option of going kubuntu only and having "Bill in a Box" so that if you ever get anything that requires windows you still have access. Before you take that step however please come back and you can get some help with it.

I would add that it's unwise to try doing any partitioning work from within a running environment - far better to do it from a live CD. You can get a live cd of gparted here

Re: KParted and/or recovery CD to remove XP, as well as Wine help for Zune software

One of my main problems is, I don't wish to install a virtual box, because my Kubuntu partition is getting smaller and smaller. I set it up so that XP would have ~80gb and that Kubuntu would have ~40-60gb. So, my XP is sitting there with almost nothing on it, while my Kubuntu is getting filled very quickly. If there is a way to just move 60gb or so over to the Kubuntu, I'll just do that instead. Will the GParted do that?

Yes, just boot with the GParted live CD and resize the partitions

BTW, I believe the original Zune also requires USB1.1 and is not USB2.0 compatible. VirtualBox should be able to handle that.
