    No init found

    Hi,

    my boot fails. I get

    Target does'nt have requested /sbin/init

No init found. Try passing init=bootarg

    .....

    (intramfs)

please can you advise me on how to pass init=bootarg?

    Re: No init found

Surely there's more to this story -- that problem should not occur on a typical installation. What kind of hardware combination did you attempt to install it on? Live CD or Alternate? Hard disk drive or USB stick or ??.

Here is *buntu guidance on boot options: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions

But, your error can also be caused by a bad hard drive: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1610269

Or, you may have an error on the Live CD if you burned it. Check #1 on the FAQs in my signature.

Thanks for your interest. Let me try to clear things up and reveal the state of play:

Kubuntu was working fine then I got a mssge i didn't really understand and I lost my gui so I tried to reboot. but my boot failed and I got :

      Target does'nt have requested /sbin/init

No init found. Try passing init=bootarg

      .....

      (intramfs)

please can you advise me on how to pass init=bootarg?

      NB:
My live cd was taking so long to load I gave up and loaded a live puppy linux. but that returns an error in the gui when I try to mount my hd partitions.

      Thanks for your time

        Re: No init found

It looks like you are not alone. I don't know what it means about "passing" an init= argument. The Ubuntu kernel boot options don't list "init" as an option, so passing it an argument doesn't seem very useful.

Here's the best information I can find about the problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1386549

It looks like the things to do are:

        1. Boot a Live CD that has Gparted on it, and run "check" on the ext4 filesystem that has your OS on it.

        2. Re-install the grub-pc package (i.e. reinstall Grub).

Let's start with the basics here. Tell us what version of Kubuntu your are using.
