[RESOLVED] Problem in installing Kubuntu

Hi guys
I have a problem in installing Kubuntu and of course other Linuxes
when I want to install it I think it can not recognize my laptop's VGA and I can not see the screen well

I want to know is there any way to install VGA driver befor installing linux?
I want to install Kubuntu 10.10 CD version

That does not look like a video driver problem -- that looks like the LCD panel is failing. If the driver were not working, you would not see any recognizable image.

You can do a test, if you can connect the external video port on your laptop to an external monitor, and use the F5 (or which F key is right on your laptop) to switch the video to an external monitor. I think it will look correct on the other monitor.

It's not problem of LCD panel because I am using windows 7 on this laptop.

If when you load the live CD you hit F4 you can try safe graphics mode, which might get you going with a basic setup.

If you mean a page in text mode I have problem with it too

No it doesn't mean text mode it means to simply load the vesa drivers and to run at a low graphics level - not text mode, which is something else altogether.

In your 1st post you infer you have tried other linux versions - what other ones have you tried?

Yea I tried vesa on Kubuntu and also opensuse but it does not work
I tried kubuntu and ubuntu and opensuse and chakra
but I could not install none of them

Even though it is mostly about audio problems, there seems to be some useful information about the hd4200 also.

But, you have to have an installed Linux OS before you can install a video driver or kernel module. If you use the Alternate Install CD, you should be able to do the installation, and it should work correctly in character mode, and I would think the VESA driver would work for X display. Then you could proceed with installing the ATI catalyst driver, I think -- I don't use ATI video chips so I'm not experienced on that aspect of it.

Guys I could install kubuntu from installing inside windows because it did not need to do something during the installation but I have another problem now
Though I can not see the display very well but I tried to install the driver but it wants a password and I can not enter the password
the keyboard does not work on it
of course it does not work just on it
what should I do now?

If you look at this post: http://tech.exchange.ph/blog/g/2010/...nd-love-ubuntu they only say that Ubuntu 10.04 "Installed in less than 30 minutes, turns on or off in a few seconds, hundreds of different applications to choose from, secure (encrypts your home folder) and every driver (battery, webcam, usb drives, dvdrw, etc.) all running properly." They do not mention any problems at all.

You say in the specs: CPU: AMD athlon II x2. This surely means a dual-core processor

If you scroll down the post, above, to the posting by paulkev09 it says "Even though this laptop only came with a single-core processor, it can still outperform some dual-core processors today." ...Is there not a contradiction here? Single or dual? Which disk have you installed? 32-bit or 64-bit?

In your post on the OpenSUSE forum (http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...s-problem.html) they asked "do you have the Live CD? and have you done this: http://tinyurl.com/25ydj4a. " Similarly have you checked the md5 sum or sha256 sum (hash) of the .iso file ? If you are in any doubt about how to do this look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

I don't know what do you mean
you mean there is no dual core processor for this laptop?
I'm sure about that

it's 64 bit and I'm trying to install kubuntu 10.10 64 bit
I've done all of those steps but they did not work also live CD
and the CD does not have any problem because my friend installed it and it worked

If you can see well enough to make the installation, then after the system is installed,

K > System > Additional Drivers > choose the ATI driver that is offered, and wait while it is downloaded and installed (maybe 5 minutes or more).

That's the best way to have the proprietary ATI driver installed.

If you can't see enough to do the installation ..........
