Need to use Google Chrome Browser -need idiots guide- FIXED

Suddenly Firefox has taken against my Gmail account but Chrome has not.

But Chrome is AOK ! So I need to install it but how ?

I mostly use 64 bit Hardy Heron but also have the very latest 32bit Kubuntu running on another PC. Fresh install of the 32 bit one 10 days ago.

Has anyone succeeded in getting Chrome to run ? (I'm not a Guru more of an Idiot, so simple instruction or comments !)

Any thoughts very greatly appreciated !

Hi,

This will add the latest version (daily builds) of Chromium (Chrome without Google branding). And don't worry, it is pretty stable)

THIS IS FOR (K)ubuntu Hardy Heron:

1- First you have to add the following line to your "sofware sources" (through the Adept's or KPackageKit's, "software sources")

deb [url]http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu[/url] hardy main

2 - Then open a Konsole (terminal) and type the following:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 4E5E17B5

3 - Update the software sources:

sudo apt-get update

4- Finally install chromium.

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser chromium-browser-l10n

THIS IS FOR Latest (K)ubuntu (Lucid Lynx or Maverick Meerkat):

1. Open a Konsole (Terminal) and add repository (copy-paste the below commands)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chromium-daily/ppa

2. Update the software sources:

sudo apt-get update

4- Finally install chromium.

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser chromium-browser-l10n

Chromium (Chrome without Google branding) version 9 will be installed and you will get its updates too.

Open KPackageKit, go to "Settings" and click "Edit Software Sources"

goto "Other Software" and click "Add"

enter "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main"without the qoutes

this worked for me for kubuntu 10.04 and 10.10.

And ask adept to Install it and it did !

Brilliant !

Actually, Tim, it's even easier than that, if you use Chrome as opposed to Chromium.

If you download the .deb version of Chrome from google, when you click on the file and run gdebi to install it, it also updates your repository list with the google chrome repo so you get updates direct from the when they come available.

I am plagued with XP at work. My Firefox gmail extension no longer works there. Once I made Chrome my default browser at work, links ceased to work within outlook. The firms IT department said this is a known issue, which was solved as soon as I removed Chrome. Also, on my home machine, for some reason my Thunderbird links stopped working. When I set Chrome as the default browser within kde they started working again, this time with Chrome.

Is it possible that your installation of Chrome is the very reason for your Gmail applet no longer working?
