    Re: vlc wont play dvds

That's a very nice machine. I did not see anything helpful. The only thing that that I am wondering is, does the dual layer DVD show up as two different devices in /dev? When you open vlc, in the block labeled "Disc Device" it probably says dev/dvd. delete out the dvd part the use the pull down arrow to the right or the block and see if more that one dvd device is listed. They may be numbered dvd0, dvd1. If so try those to play your disc. If none are listed, then this was just a swag on my part that failed miserably.

Never mind. The link you posted 'works' if I just click on it. I was attempting to copy/paste, and that doesn't work. I've edited it so it shows the description as a hyperlink, which is preferred. See How To: Include hyperlinks in posts - the SHORT way!

just a point of note ......hear VLC's block labeled "Disc Device" is /dev/sr0 and yes it's dual layer DVD capable .

you could conceivably check the links in /dev .....like /dev/cdrom and see what block device they actually point to then enter that in VLC's open disk menu and see what happens.

yep, mine points to /dev/sr0 as well. maybe that'll help if you do what vinny suggested.
