like in Windows, i would hold down Cntrl while clicking on each file to select them all, Is there a similar method for dolphine?

            kubuntu 10.10.

Maybe it'll help if i explain what i'm tring to do. I'm trying to upload photos. Normally, in Windows with FF browser, i would click browse to file, which opens Explorer window, then select multiple files holding cntrl or dragging mouse over them and they all select and i can upload them all at once.

But when i do so in Kubuntu, it opens dolphine and i try to do same thing but it only selects one file. So i don't know if its specifically related to what i'm doing or what.
I do know that Dolphin is configured to open any file with just one click.....as apposed to double clicking. in case that matters.

10.10, so you are running KDE 4.5.1 at least. If you are running the default Desktop Theme, then when you have Dolphin open, and you place your mouse on any folder or file, a green + sign should appear in the upper left corner of the folder/file. If you click it it turns to a minus - sign and that folder/file is 'selected.' Doing the same to addtional folders/files selects them in turn.

Or you can do the mouse click+drag select folders/files within a rectangular area. Once you have the folders/files so selected just let go of the mouse. Then from the title bar select Edit > Copy (or Cut), navigate to where you want to put them, and then Edit > Paste.

Alternatively, you can utilize the Ctrl+letter shortcut keys to all the above. Ctrl+A within an active pane will select all items. Ctrl+C copies the selected. Ctrl+V pastes what you've selected.

As with most GUI applications, you can identify what the default shortcuts are by checking the items available from the title bar.

                Re: select multiple files

I use Dolphin to move photos from the SDHC card (removed from my camera) to a folder in the filesystem on my computer. The process goes about like this:

                - insert the USB connector on the multi-card reader that has the SDHC card in it into my computer, and the "device notifier" pops up a notification. I click the "open in Dolphin" choice.

                - Dolphin opens the card, and I browse to the subdirectory that holds the images.

                - next I click "split" in the dolphin menu, and in the other panel (which you have to click once to "focus"), I browse to the target folder in my filesystem.

                - next, click once on the panel with the images to get focus, hold the Shift key, click the top image, and then the bottom image on the list, and the entire list should be highlighted.

                - with the list of image files highlighted, I drag it to the other panel, release the mouse button, choose "move here" from the pop-up menu, and the image files are moved off the SDHC card and into their target folder.

@f1refly- when I use firefox to up picks to photobucket clicking the upload button opens a file browser window but I dont think it's dolphin .........but holding the ctrl key will allow selecting multiple files.

maybe where your uploading to has some special selection process for multiple files.

I'm using Imageshack. Maybe its not dolphin but it kinda looked like it to me, like a slightly cut down version if it....anyway, i havnt found any way to grab several files, i have tried all mentioned. Even cntrl + A does nothing.

Maybe if someone went to www.imageshack.us and tried to select a few files, they could better understand what i'm talking about. Maybe thats not even Dolphin but i dont know what file manager it is.
I know imageshack has a bulk loading application i can download but i never could figure out how to install it., well i think i installed it but its not there? i dunno

                        Re: select multiple files

Well, that's a horse of a different color all together. The behaviors we have been specifying all work in the 'full-blown' reqonk, Dolphin, or Konquer apps. However, ImageShack invokes (as far as I can tell) a plug-in (for lack of better understanding on my part) of the 'browser' you used to get to their website. I just tried, and you are correct, none of the methods we have described work.

                          Re: select multiple files

It sounds like to me that you are trying to upload multiple files to imageshack.com am I right? If so, than you may only be able to select on file at a time to upload. However, i'd wonder if you could put a comma after each file name, and see if that would work, and it would bulk up load, but I don't know if you could really do that. Also, I think I understand that you installed an app that is a bulk uploader tool, and that it works for linux too. If that's the case, dolphin itself may not be able to do it, because the feature is not there. You would know if your using the dolphin window manager because it should say dolphin on the top of the window. However, another trick you might want to pull is to use konquerer instead of dolphin. Dolphin is set top be used by default. Go in and change the setting to use konquerer instead, and see if that helps.

Or one can read and follow the information on ImageShack for 'bulk uploading' which one finds when clicking on the See all >> link under More Ways to Upload where we find the Imageshack Uploader link:
A simple cross-plaptform(Win, Mac, & Linux) application for uploading one or more images to Imageshack. You may upload to your account or anonymously. Features include tweeting, tags, previews, image resizing, drag and drop, link creation and more.
