    Couple of problems

    Hello ,

I'm kind of new to the whole Linux system, but anyway i came across 2 little problems i have no sound in games and i need another way to delete files other that click delete.

So Ive just installed the newest version ( I think ) of Kubuntu. Ive tried installing games trough wine, but they've only launched when i got the crossover demo installed, so i have a couple of games, the one that runs the best is TF2 trough steam, and i don't seem to have any sounds in-game ( any game) , googled and tried alot of things but it didn't worked ,any ideas? ( i have an integrated nvidia sound card that came with M4N-78PRO Asus motherboard )

the second problem is i have accidentally pressed extract here at one archive and it extracted over 9000 files to my home folder, and now everytime i open it it lags and i cannot delete it by hand any ideas here?

sound......open a terminal and type alsamixer and hit enter.

use the arrow keys to move through and adjust them and escape to quit.
make shure none are muted or turned way down.......

delete.........to permanently delete files and folders (bypassing the resical bin) highlight the files to remove and hold down shift wile pressing delete.

If I understand you correctly, you now have 9000 files in your home directory that should not be there. If this is a brand new install, and you have not put a lot of work into customizing it, or setting up additional programs I would think the easiest way out of this is a complete reinstall. Of course, you would want to copy any personal documents and files to a safe place first.

If you don't want to do that, then the challenge is to select the files you don't want and then delete them. A tedious process with over 9000 files to be selected and deleted. If it were me, I would go the easier route of selecting the files and folders you want to keep, copy them to a safe location, delete the entire contents of the directory, then copying the keepers back to their original location. When doing this, make sure you have your view settings checked to show hidden files and folders. You can then use the "Select All" option in your file browser to mark all of the files. Then be sure you hold down the "Shift" key when you select "Move to Trash" so that the files will be deleted and not just moved to the Trash Bin. No matter how you look at it, it is going to be a tedious undertaking because the good files and the bad files are going to be intermingled. Which is why the reinstall option is recommended.
