System Sound OK, Flash + Wine + VLC Sound not always working needing restart

    Hello

Before I begin: I have tried to search for a solution and apologise beforehand if there is an actual solution for this on here which I did not find.

I have got sound working on my system, BUT sometimes when I start up my system and use Wine, Youtube in Firefox or play a movie with VLC player no sound plays. I test the system and sound plays when I use Amarok for a music CD. Always when I start I hear the piano sound after logging in.

Is there a way to ensure that sound for Wine, Flash and VLC always works without needing me to restart my system?

I am new to Linux but am guessing I can edit some file to make sure the sound drivers are always loaded correctly for these programs?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanking you in advanced.

    Hello

This is not an actual solution, but it might be a way to work around the problem. Whenever I have no sound playing in vlc or youtube I try it and it works.

Go to system settings -> multimedia -> Phonon

In the output device preference choose the first one and click test. You will hear the startup sound. Close the window and go back to vlc, youtube whatever. They should play now.

You are actually making no changes at all, just clicking the test button. It works for me so give it a try

EDIT: If it works for you, try something else too: use the button of vlc to scan in various points of the video/audio. After doing that, the sound mutes for me. It also happens if I pause using spacebar. This cannot be solved with the trick I described before. It only occurs in vlc, not in other players.
