    strange resolution 640x480 1280x854 ?

hi i'm relatively new to linux. i installed the latest version of kubuntu on my i386 pc today and everything was fine. i had my resolution set to 1024x768...i shut down the computer and when i booted up later the screen resolution was set to 640x480. so i went to the display settings and the only two resolutions i could use were 640x480 or 1280x854. where did the 1024x768 go? i did look around on the internet before posting, but i was unable to find anything that would help. can someone please help me figure this out. thank you. and just incase the video card i am using is a radeon 7500. thanks

here is my config...the only thing that i edited out previously was the 640x480 resolutions and 1280x854 resolutions under monitor, and all the modes other than 1024x768 under screen. i took those out thinking it may help. but it hasn't...

        Hi,

Your config seems OK to me. You better reconfigure your xserver:
        sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
