Total Freeze; Had to warm-boot? [Solved]

    Hi,

I was trying to arrow through some images with Gwenview when KDE 4.5.1 totally froze. No mouse movt, no esc, No ctl+Fx. Was my only option to Warm-boot?

    Thanks

Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring

    or

Reboot System Even If Utterly Borked

Press the Alt and SysRq keys, and while holding them down, press r, s, e, i, u, and b in sequence.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key

When you have it running normally, open a terminal window and enter
    Code:
    htop
Put that window where you can keep an eye on it, and start up Gwenview and arrow through some images. In the htop window, you should see a process start consuming all of the CPU resources. That will tell you how it appeared to freeze.

If you simply wait, the process will (probably) eventually come to its conclusion and return the system to normal functionality.

There's no "Solved" button, you simply edit the subject of your post and put [Solved] at the beginning.
