In linux, you can use "ifconfig" command to get information on the network interfaces of your computer . . .
Hehe, I actually don't know much about MS-Windows and I've just tried it a few times when fixing other people's computers. However, I'm a command line simpleton and use "ifconfig" many times daily. (PS: I'm not that knowledgeable but was afraid you were mixing me up with Windows folk )

      Sorry for the that

Although I hastily quoted you, my comment was directed at ardvark's question:
Is there a way of checking my computer's IP address to see if it is different? I tried "ipconfig" in windows but the cmd window only stayed up for a split second.

        I'm way too sensitive.

Gotcha. I was wondering about that. The terminal shouldn't crash when you run "ipconfig" should it? Or is "the cmd window" something different.

He probably ran the command from Windows "run command" interface (which opens up a shell window, runs the command and exits) rather than opening a shell window and running the command from there.
