Basically just follow the wizard and you will be asked for the location of the .iso file.

Open Vbox, then click on File> Media Manager> CD/DVD Images tab> Add - this will open a path/file dialog. Point it at your iso and click on it. This will add it to your Media Manager, so then click OK.

The next step is to launch the New Virtual Machine Wizard by clicking New and following the dialogs. When to get to "Storage" you should be able to select your iso as a virtual CDROM and then boot to it.

Go through the install just like you would if you were installing it on your computer. When you have it installed, "disconnect" the iso and boot to the new virtual "hard drive". From there it should look and act just like your old Hardy install. Simply open a browser, download and istall your game and you should be good to go!

Hi guys...

Thank you but it's not working. I set up the disk space and everything for it beforehand. When I point it to the .iso, VB says it can't read the media. And for some reason, there is no setting for the CD/DVD ROM in the machine settings.

Did the ISO pass its md5sum check?

The CDROM has to be selected in the guest OS storage settings dialog, and the "pass through" button checked. The Pass Through button often won't become active until you attempt to open a CDROM after you've added it to to the storage settings.

Ok, I just found the setting to affect all this, it's installing now. Thank you so much, guys, for helping me!

EDIT: WAS installing. When it got to the part where Ubuntu was to configure the partitions, it said it needed more space. I figured 1.5 GB's would be more than enough space. How do I increase the amount of virtual disk space or do I have to delete it and start over again?

Did a quick scan of this thread, and I don't see that you ever identified the version of Kubuntu you are running, the version of KDE, and therefore, the version of VB you installed. All information that will help here.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 LTS, the version of KDE is what came with the Kubuntu install, whatever that is. And the version of VB is 3.1.6 OSE r59338.

Thank you. The information will be helpful. As to the version of KDE, just open any GUI app (Dolphin say) and click on Help > About KDE. You are likely not using the most recent release (KDE 4.5.1, which is very stable here).

The Kubuntu install is typically between 2 and 3 GB (for my installs). I always make my storage dynamic and set it to a max of 8GB.

Sound advise. However, the 4.5.1 version is a 'recommended' upgrade from 'KDE 4.5.0 or earlier.' I waited until 4.5.1 was released, and have not been disappointed in the least. KDE 4.5.1 is very stable, and I upgraded from 4.4.5.

Aardvark: Use "Dynamically Expanding" for your virtual hard drive and use 8gb. It won;t actually use that much space initially - but will expand to that size when/if needed. This will then report to your Hardy install that 8gb is available - more than enough.

Can I do this even though the virtual disk is already set at 1.5 GB's? Or do I need to delete it and create a new one?

UPDATE.....

I am starting to lose my patience with this entire procedure. I went ahead and deleted the entry in the VB main window and the VB HardDisks and Machines folders. Yet for some reason, the "Ubuntu 8.04.vdi will not go away by deleting it to the trash or even if I try to delete it by opening a dolphin window by typing "sudo dolphin." If I don't do this, I get error messages while trying to set up the virtual hard disk. How do I get this file off my system for good?!

These constant little obstacles and problems are starting to get on my nerves, >
