...been fighting with cron every since I clean installed Maverick last weekend. I migrated /etc/crontab from my old Lucid install, cleaning it up a bit and it hasn't worked since. I've checked syntax of the entries probably twenty times.

Did I check syslog to see what the problem was? No. I can fix this without reading logs

Anyway, today I looked at the log and had it fixed within about 30 seconds. The log said...

Sep 14 05:50:01 wizard-desktop cron[3320]: (*system*) ERROR (Missing newline before EOF, this crontab file will be ignored)



This stuff always happens when I get a little cocky and figure I know enough to not have to read system logs - anyway, it's fixed now.

That, and ":"'s where ";" should be, typos, etc... All make life interesting, if not exasperating!
