    Can't start session

    hi, me again

This is the deal. I installed kubuntu yesterday. Now when it prompts the start session screen, I write the user and password, click enter and then starts loading a new screen. It shows an hdd draw, and starts loading some other images, and all of a sudden it prompts me again at the start session screen.

¿Any ideas what may cause this?

I have to hdd. hda is entirely for kubuntu, hdb is for windows.

Intel Celeron 2,13 GHz at ASROCK P4VM800 motherboard
    1,18 GB RAM

    Thanks a lot

      Hi,

      first, thanks a lot.

Second, I tried deleting .ICEauthority and .Xauthority, however couldn't find .ICEauthority anywhere. I deleted .Xauthority but nothing changed.

      I couldn't use kdesudo

      Also i tried this http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3097402.0

      but,

I have three partitions in a master hdd, it's a new instalation.
First is root, 12 GB with 24% usage
second is swap, 2 GB almost 0%
third is home, 26 GB with 1% usage

Renaming .kde and restart didn't worked

/etc/init.d/kdm start didn't worked (I asume because I had to use sudo)

Remove / reinstall kdm didn't worked either

        Re: Can't start session

        Hello again,

yesterday after trying all that, I made a new install with the same characteristics, and still have the same problem.

Did I did something wrong with those steps?

when I try kdesudo command for kdm start, it says cannot connect with x server. What should I do?

Why is that I can't find ICEAuthority, just XAuthority? did something went wrong on the install?

Time to tell us what version of Kubuntu you are attempting to use.

            ok. Kubuntu 10.04. Spanish.

PC with two hard disks. First OS installed XP, then kubuntu. XP is on hdb, Kubuntu on hda. hda is 40 GB. Both IDE.

            hda1: ext4, root, 12 GB with 24% usage
            hda2: swap, 2 GB
            hda3: ext4, home, 26 GB with 1% usage

I'm thinking about reinstalling, but choose he option of login automatically instead of asking for user and password, and after installed activate this option...

(I also tried removing language pack as someone proposed)

By chance, as you are Spanish (?), did you use a password with accented characters? If you did, that might be the crux of your problem.

                nope,

its a four letter password, all lower case

Why is that when I use kdesudo it says cannot connect to x server?

                  Re: Can't start session

This is a stab in the dark, but IIRC, Kubuntu has a 'minimum' length password of six characters. If I'm remembering that correctly, there is a problem during installation that isn't triggered until after installation. That is the setting of a password that is less than the minimum length. During installation, when you are asked for a password, it allows you to use one that is to short, but it doesn't tell you that you need a longer one. Once the installation is completed and you perform a reboot, then the problem is realized.

Unless someone else who's memory is clearer on this than mine chimes in on this, you might want to reinstall again and choose a password that is six or more characters long. Mine is seven.

                      Hi,

It didn't worked. So, I installed Ubuntu and had no problems. I'm thinking in installing kde later.
