I figured that it would be quicker to just start over. Plus I've learned a lot since I last installed Kubuntu, way back in April!

It was late last night and I didn't pay attention to the fact that Kpackagekit installed over 120 updates, but everything seems to be going fine. Went to Konsole and finished the upgrade process.

Already have Synaptic loaded, so that's my choice from now on, until the Kubuntu gurus give it the blessing.

I just installed Synaptic from the command line, seems to be working just fine!

I'll also get to do this again in October with the release of 10.10. I'm sure the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 is easy, but I like the practice of reinstalling everything. Gets me to remember all the various command line items!
    Hi....

Right on. So everything (dial-up) modem related reinstalled ok, too?

Everything but the dial up modem is back, and I'm about to go get those drivers!

Now I've run into a problem with the installer program erroring out. Not sure why it's not working, but now I'm going to look at Newegg and see if I can get a decent inexpensive USB modem.

Edit - tonight I was installing something else, and it was interrupted during the install.

I had a dialog pop up that said, "E:dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. "

Running that, suddenly the building of the module for the modem driver is underway.

Ok, now I want to learn what happened!

            Hi....

You were installing two things at one time? If so, that's probably why you received the error message. Did the modem finally install correctly?
