    Mic help for Powerspeak/Elluminate please!!!!!

Hi, I am a newbie to Kubu ntu 10.04 (and all Linux) and something in the system will not allow my daughter to be able to record on Power Speak/Elluminate for her Spanish 1. The mics will record with Audacity and play over the speakers when I try to record, but the online programs will not detect them (them being just a mic with a pink plug and a headset/mic with the pink and green plugs, plugged into either the front or back ports on 2 desktops and a laptop). The Elluminate company says that only Ubuntu 8.10 or lower and Open Suse 11 or higher works with their system, however the tech I was speaking to used Ubuntu 10.4 and he can make it work. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Oh, and please, the simpler the instructions and explainations, the better!! Thank you so much!!

    Hi...

Didn't he give you the instructions to make the microphones work?

It took me awhile to get my mic working.
There are a few things to try.

      First, run in console: alsamixer
Check the capture settings there as you may need to adjust some settings.

You may need to add the audio model you are using to the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base by adding this line (replace yourmodelname with whatever you are using http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentat...dio-Models.txt):
      options snd-hda-intel model=yourmodelname

Lastly, and this is what finally got it working for me, edit /var/lib/alsa/asound.state and make sure capture switch values are set to true.

There's a screenshot here if it helps.
