You don't need to download them separately. Just type this into a terminal
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install firefox
    sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
That will download and install Firefox and Thunderbird.
Linux is ready for the desktop--but whose desktop?<br />How to install software in Kubuntu

If you want to install packages easily the best way (for beginners), is to use Synaptic (or Kynaptic), you will have all packages and descriptions in a kde interface.
You just have to launch it as root.

If you don't have root password :

Thanks all for the help. I used Kynaptic last night and got them working.
