Needing help with Lbreakout2 and Firefox (SOLVED)...

    Hi all...

I installed a copy of 10.04 x64 (dual boot with Vista) on my HP Pavilion dv9830us laptop last night and I have to say I am impressed with what I see. There has only been one glitch, it didn't complete the boot process once. Driver installation was flawless and it seems to have covered most if not everything on my laptop, even the webcam! I was offered an easy way to download and "activate" non-free drivers which included my Nvidia (GeForce) 8600M GS graphics and the softmodem chipsets. The OS itself has been extremely stable (except the one time when it did not boot completely.) I can see that Ubuntu/kubuntu, if not Linux in general, is making definite strides on the desktop and my experience so far with this distribution is quite a bit different than with my last installation of Ubuntu (5.10,) which was my sole OS from October, 2006 to March, 2007. Of particular note is that my wireless connection has worked perfectly so far (out of the box) without any dropped connections. That's pretty impressive, guys. Keep up the good work!

I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with:

    1. With LBreakout2, I have deleted a couple levels and sound files and added a level that I made when I was using
Ubuntu 5.10. Although my changes have registered in the various folders the game is located in, I cannot get my
custom level to work and the ones I deleted still register and work! What do I need to do to correct this, do I
need to make some adjustment in a configuration file in some way?

    2. How do I get rid of the "book of mozilla" in Firefox? (about:mozilla) I would prefer not to have this included with the
    program.

    3. I have forgotten a lot of the command line language I learned when I used Ubuntu. Is there a web site or page
handy that gives a list of generally used commands?

    4. Is there a way of disabling the Kubuntu "Wallet?" It seems I have to give it permission to access my wireless
connection in order for a connection to take place and it also asks permission to access Kapote as well. Why does
    it do this?

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

    Regards...

Can't help with (1) and (2). For (3) you might like the BASH Programming Introduction and the BASH Beginners Guide which are both from the The Linux Documentation Project. There are a number of "cheat sheets" that are available as well. I like this one and this one. But, there are others out there as well.

        Hi all....

        Just an update....

I figured out #4 myself although I've discovered it's less of a hassle to keep it enabled, otherwise, I get a window asking me for my wireless password.

I'm still seeking help with questions 1 and 2 plus these questions:

How and where do I download and install (to where it works) the Atlantis OpenGL screensaver that's in the xscreensaver collection? I had this when I was using Ubuntu 5.10 and miss it.

How do I stop the screen from turning off a few minutes after the screensaver comes on? I looked for a setting in the in the power management options but didn't find anything.

        Thanks!

For screensavers: Open your favorite package manager (mine is Synaptic) and search for "xscreensaver" (without the quotes). I must admit that I don't really know what's in there because I use a very unimaginative sliding banner that just says "Kubuntu 10-04". The nice thing about it, though, is that when people who are not familiar with Linux see it, they ask me what it means. This gives me an opening to bore them with the advantages of FOSS. I believe that you can set the timing in "System Settings">Desktop>"Screen Saver".

As far as I know, Power Management is handled by Kubuntu, only in "System Settings" > Advanced > "Power Management", but (if you're using a desktop box) your monitor might have a mind of its own, (My flat panel certainly does.) so you'll have to look at the user's manual for the monitor (if such exists) to see whether and how you can configure that.

              Hi askrieger...

Thank you so much for your help!

I was able to get the screensaver I wanted. As for the game and the screen going off, I'll continue to see if I can fix these issues myself. If not, I can uninstall the game and live with the screen.

There is an option to 'Turn off Screen' in Power Management, that's the only one I can think of (just in case you missed it).

Open Power Management -> Edit Profile and check the
                Code:
When system is idle for ______
, there is counter in place of ____ and a drop box after it to choose what to do, one of the option is 'Turn off Screen', make sure it is not the one selected.

I clicked something and now all of the toolbar icons, like the clock, have moved to the left of the toolbar where the K start button is and when I bring up a program, there is no longer a box for it on the toolbar! How do I fix this??

Thank you aqeeliz for your help.

On the Panel, on the right end, there is what is (affectionately) called the 'cashew.' Mouse-click on it. If you don't have widgets 'locked' then you will see another panel appear above the actual Panel. This is the 'editing' area for the Panel. With this open, you now have the ability to move items on the Panel. If you now just place your mouse cursor over any of the icons on the Panel, you will see a four-pointed arrow. If you then click and hold the mouse button (left button unless you have reconfigured your mouse buttons), you can then drag the icon to a position on the Panel you want it to be at. Just let go of the mouse button when it the icon is where you want it.

As to not seeing running applications on the Panel, that is likely do to you having removed the Task Manager widget. Right-click on an empty area of the Panel and select Panel Options > Add Widgets... and then type Task Manager. This will show just one widget - Task Manager. Double-click it and it will be added to the Panel. Any running applications you have will 'appear' again.
