[SOLVED] Sound issues unsolvable?

I have been all over this site, and I have taken the suggestions of other Linux users. Nothing is working. I cannot get sound with flash on Firefox. I have never had this trouble with older issues of Ubuntu. I also have used Fedora ( yuck) and had not trouble. I need to have all functionality with this computer. I am a homeschooling parent, and my daughter and son have lessons online, some with sound. I have so far been able to pull up the videos on my Android phone, but that doesn't always work. I really need a good sound driver for my sound card. I am using a gatewayDX200.

Again I have never had this problem in previous releases.

are all your sound chanels turned up and avalable?

click the speeker icon in the system tray> click mixer> click settings> click configure chanels

now if eney thing is in the left side (espeshaley the PCM channel) drag it to he right side and click ok .

now make shure all the channels are unmuted and turned up ( agin espeshaley the PCM channel and master)

do you have sound in eneything elce................or is it just flash.

@talitim .....while marking SOLVED to the thread is good it helps others if we say what acualey worked for us ........so I am including this quote frome your PM to me to help explane to others what solution worked in this case

just got back online. I have tried installing pulse Audio all packages. used the code provided. Installed then uninstalled.
Finally did what you suggested, which one should do first if they are a true computer geek, and it works flawlessly.
Thanks so much. I need to update my material to atleast Ubuntu 9 books.
