How can i change the resolution??

OK. i've installed kubuntu 10.04. Using 'hardware drivers' i've installed the nvidia drivers. Everything is just great, but i can't change my screen resolution to what i need!! (1280x1024) There are only 2 options in the nvidia settings dialog (see the screenshot attached). Same options are in KDE desktop settings.

I notice that your xorg.conf file lists the characteristics of your monitor. Where did they come from? Did you enter them, or did they arrive automagically from EDID? This may come as a shock, but EDID is sometimes wrong! The fact that your xorg.conf file does not show the brand name of the monitor, would seem to imply that you may be in that predicament.

I suggest using Google to find the characteristics of your monitor. They may even be provided on the manufacturer's website in a usable form. I would then rewrite the monitor section of your xorg.conf file.

The problem was solved by changing

HorizSync 28.0 - 33.0

into

HorizSync 28.0 - 80.0


I don't really know if it is correct, but it worked out. Let me know if i'm doing smth wrong. Otherwise let's mark this 'solved'

I REALLY, REALLY would suggest going to the manufacturer's web site for the characteristics of your monitor. Several years ago, I noticed a vile smell coming from an ancient monitor. It turned out that I was overdriving it. I'm not saying that you're going to burn your house down, but I will say that my wife has taken a somewhat jaundiced view of my hardware expertise, ever since.

OK. i'm not really familiar with all that stuff, so your support would be appreciated. I went to the manufacturer site, found my monitor

Short answer: Close enough!

Long answer: I did a google/linux search on "xorg.conf", and I found (among many others) THIS PAGE that seems to explain the monitor settings pretty well.

Moments Later: I just realized that the reference I gave you was nothing more than the "man" page. You can find exactly the same thing on your computer by starting a console and typing

man xorg.conf

Or you can do the same Google search I did and look for a more user friendly explanation.
