    [Solved]Yikes! What's dis???

    I went to edit my /etc/syscctl.conf to accomodate my 50Mb cable connection. It worked fine and all but I got this output while opening the file:
    Code:
    anton@azathok:~$ kdesudo kate /etc/sysctl.conf
    QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
    QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/anton/.config/ibus/bus
    Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
    IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
    kbuildsycoca4 running...
    kate(2044)/kdecore (services) KMimeTypeFactory::parseMagic: Now parsing "/usr/share/mime/magic"
    QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
    QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /root/.config/ibus/bus
    Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
    IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
    anton@azathok:~$
    None of that sounds very good to my nooby little brain. This is a pretty fresh install although there has been an awful lot of updates . Is something broke?

    You seem to have attempted to start a GUI program in a Bash console. Kdesudo will not work inside a shell. In order to start Kate:
    * Go to a KDE desktop.
    * Right click your mouse on the desktop. A menu will appear.
    * Left click on "Run Command".
    * Enter your password when requested.
    * Kate will start with /etc/sysctl.conf open for editing.

    This is one of (at least) half a dozen ways of starting Kate from the GUI, and NOT the easiest. I leave the others as an exercise for the student (an old retired academic's habit).

      Nothing wrong here. When you launch a GUI app from the console, you see the stuff you have posted. Nothing wrong.

        Heh heh, boy is my face red lol. Thank you.
        I have one other one here I hope is as silly. I was attempting to search for a file name in dolphin (from the search bar.) and I got this message:
        "Could not start process. Unable to create IO-slave: klauncher said: error loading kio-napomuksearch"
        I assume starting a search from the top of a file manager would be recursively from the opened folder (or perhaps globally.) Am I wrong?

          You need to have Desktop Search (Nepomuk/Strigi Server Configuration) running.

          K > System Settings > Advanced > Desktop Search > General > File Indexing <<< Check which directories you want included in the indexing - I have all of my Home directory selected

          K > System Settings > Advanced > Desktop Search > General > Basic Settings <<< Check both the Nepomuk Semantic Desktop and Strigi Desktop File Indexer options.

              Well, I'm pretty sure that isn't true! But thank you none-the-less.

              If, as I take it, the matter is solved, you can return to the first post here, click the modify button and add [SOLVED] to the subject.
