This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686CPU....

I have a 17" MacBook Pro with a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 64 bit processor. I installed Kubuntu 10.04 on Saturday and everything was fine until this afternoon. I attempted to run Kubuntu on Parallels 5.0 (which is how I always run it), and it just hung. I checked the forum and found others with the same problem, but they had gotten no answers. I figured I'd just install another virtual machine, and take it from there. This time, however I get the following message: "This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU". Can anyone tell me why I'd be getting this message when I DO have a 64 bit processor?
    Thanks,
    Peter V.

You are not the first person to run into this problem. I believe (I may be wrong) that the issue has to do with the Parallels emulator. I further believe (same caveat) that the solution is to use a 32 bit version Kubuntu.

Thanks Al. It just seems strange that it installed fine when I tried it before. I was worried that something had happened to my CPU! I'm downloading the 32bit version as I write this.
