    [SOLVED] kubuntu gui wont boot

Hey all hope i haven't started a new post when there is one going

    right,
I was using my laptop when playing a video on youtube in firefox plasma crashed
fine when i restarted the gui.
I had also just tried a svideo lead to my tv just before all this happened
but i changed the settings back and all seemed ok there

when I tried to open terminal and the link did nothing
then the link on the desktop said the path didn't exist
then noticed all the links in system folder on start menu were missing
so i thought ok reboot machine
    sigh...

    this is when trouble struck
    it used fsck util-linux-ng 2.17.2
got through to checking battery state where it just hangs at
    *checking battery state
(wether its plugged in or not)

tried the recovery mode which said it fixed some packages (didnt help)
    purged apt-get

now at the stage where i can boot to a command line
but not really sure where to go
    bootlog didnt realy show much
just that it had tried to use fsck then hung
so im now writing this on my other install Kubuntu 9.10

PREASE HELP as lelu from fith element says
