Graphical Logon

Is there a way to provide a graphical login? ie. like windows, where you have icons and users can click on the icon and type a password to login instead of having to type your name?

Also, when I log off the screen goes black and I have to hardboot it to get it to come back. I think it may have something to do with the Nvidia drivers.

I'm using 10.04 fresh install no other OS on a Dell Dimension E520 With 2GB Ram Not sure of the CPU (where would I find that info?) Graphics card is an Nvidia 7900 GS (256 MB) using Nvidia Driver Version 173.14.22.

Take a look at K>"System Settings">Advanced>"Login Manager", especially the tabs called "Users" and "Convenience". Remember that there is a tradeoff between Security and Convenience.

Yes - install a KDM /1/ theme that is supporting the user list option.

System Settings > Advanced > Login Manager

Login Manager > Theme -> Get New Themes /2/

Pick a theme that has a userlist box, something like this:

(a random theme with the userlist/user/password boxes)

      User pictures/icons can be set/change:

System Settings > Advanced > Login Manager

Login Manager > Users -> User Images

      /1/ KDM - KDE Display Manager /3/:
      K > Applications > Help
Help > Control Center Modules > Login Manager

/2/ or go to the > KDE-Look.org and download and use the "Install new theme" option
