    Change PC name through UI

How do you change the PC name through the Kubuntu UI? I know you can edit the host file(s) and I've read where you can do that through the network settings by clicking on some Administrator mode option, but I don't see that when I go to those settings. Do I need to install something or set my user privileges to see that?

    Thanks

According to what Google found here you need to change it in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname. Note that Kubuntu's text editor is kate, vs. gedit for gnome. I can't find any "pure clicks" way to do it.

Alt-F2 "kdesudo kate /etc/hosts" (with no quote marks) will open it for you, after you give your password.

If you are referring to the name by which the computer is recognised over your local net (hostname), you can find out how to change it by entering
      Code:
      man hostname
      in the konsole application.

Other than that I yell various names at my computer, when it doesn't behave the way I expect it to, but it never does any good.

Re: Change PC name through UI

I know how to edit the hostfilename files. I'm looking for the UI version of that. I tried the "help" from the network settings UI but that didn't help me any. I was looking for the "Administrator mode" section of the UI in the network settings. I thought maybe I needed to install something to see that or if my user permissions needed to bet set to see it...

By my knowledge (??) the KDE 4 doesn't have a gui for the hostname change.

There is an option to use the > Webmin.

Browser (https://localhost:10000/) > Networking > Network Configuration > Hostname and DNS Client

(the "funny_name" is not good name > init: hostname main process (number) terminated with status...)
          Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
