My preferred screen resolution is not saved after I log-out

Installed Lucid Lynx recently.

I have connected a VGA monitor to the DVI output of my NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT using an adapter. The problem is that the monitor will always display the login screen at a resolution of 1600x1200, and this resolution remains after I log-in. However, I would prefer for the screen resolution to be 1024x768 - is it possible for my preferred resolution to remain?

kdesudo nvidia-settings , be sure to SAVE to xorg.conf, you may need to manually open your xorg.conf and paste the changes in, but if you had used the search on this site this question has been solved many times.
