Another problem, this time with the CD start up

Another problem, this time with the CD start up.

First I put the CD in the drive and booted-up like normal, I then reach the main screen. After pressing 'Start or install Kubuntu' I go to a black screen with white text saying:

    Decompressing Linux...done.
    Booting the kernel.

    _

Then I get to a loading screen with a progress bar, but after 1 second of me on the screen it freezes, being stuck at this:

    Loading essential drivers... ok
    Mounting root file system...

Then after a while (5mins+) it goes back to the black screen with white text:

    Decompressing Linux...done.
    Booting the kernel.

    _

Nothing more happens and I have to restart the computer. I've tried to do it in safe mode & check CD for defects (None there) but both end up the same way.

What am I doing wrong now?

So (Just checking. No offence intended) did to download the 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD because you have a 64-bit computer with an AMD CPU - or because it was at the top of the download list?

I was told I had a 64-bit PC, so I downloaded that one. It just got upgraded.

        In Windows XP:

        Open Start Menu
        Goto All Programs
        Goto Accessories
        Goto System Tools
        Goto System Information

        What does it say against:

        Processor

You can install the 32bit program even on a 64bit machine.

If it's not too much bother you might try downloading the PC (Intel x86) dektop CD and try that.
