Internal mic? External mic? Soundcard based mic? USB mic?

        Re: Mic problem

try opening uo a konsole and typing
        Code:
        alsamixer
use the arrow keys to move along to the mic settings. hit "m" to mute / unmute and the up and down arrows to increase / decrease volume.

have a play around with the settings and see if it helps.

If the problem is not in sliders, try workaround that have helped me in Skype:
          - use an external microphone if an internal microphone fails or
          - use a webcamera with a microphone and choose USB sound in Skype settings

            External mic did not work...

How would one go about getting soundcard drivers for linux?

              Re: Mic problem

When I had problems with an internal mic at the time of Jaunty, an external mic worked without installing any driver. When I solved a problem in Karmic with USB mic I needed no driver too. It was necessary to care only about sliders in KMix. For example a level of Digital is very important.
