    Remove Netbook Remix

I am using Kubuntu 10.4 Netbook Remix on an EeePC 1000h (Intel Atom cpu, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd, *no* optical drive, 2 usb ports).

Every time I open a program it automatically maximises to fullscreen. There is no minimise button, (or if there is I can't find it). If I press the escape key on the keyboard this sometimes works (but not always). So I have to quit the application completely to get back to the desktop. This cannot be right. Where am I going wrong?

All the help documentation seems to refer to the standard desktop installation and does not correspond to what I see on my screen. Is there a (relatively) simple way to remove the Netbook Remix 'improvements' and work from the standard Kubuntu desktop?

      Re: Remove Netbook Remix

Thank you. The thread says :

"You have to uninstall plasma-netbook and kubuntu-netbook-default-settings and restart."

How do I do this? Would it be "sudo apt-get remove plasma-netbook" or do I just delete all the files I can find which are named "plasma-netbook" ?

        Re: Remove Netbook Remix

Ok, I used synaptic to remove those two packages and then re-booted and was presented with a totally black screen with a (functional) white pointer arrow but nothing to point to (a bit zen like). And then I remembered alt-F2 which offered me a text box connected to krunner and re-launched synaptic. I then narrowed the packages offered down to "kde" and chose kde-workspace which was then installed together with a plasma package, whose name I can't remember. Then I re-booted again and was presented with what appears to be the standard Kubuntu desktop (if there is such a thing). Anyway - success! Thank you for your clues. Much appreciated.

          Glad you got it fixed

The reason you got the black screen is because you removed plasma and restarted before installing kubuntu-desktop. I'm afraid I should have said that the restart in the middle was unnecessary.

Glad you got it sorted, though.

Since no one has answered the original question I give it a try.
The way to switch between applications or the desktop is alt-tab (or whatever buttons are set up, I use ctrl-tab). I think the reason to remove the window borders is to gain area on the tiny netbook screens. I also thought that the behavior was a bit awkward to what I was used to but decided to try it for some time (3 months ago) and I haven't returned to the standard desktop yet.
I can also get the panel if I move the mouse to the top edge of my screen.

To change the "switch application" button go to System Settings-> Look & Feel -> Window Behavior -> Navigate Through Windows -> and there at the bottom you find the action "Walk Through Windows"
