network connection is not visible in connection manager

    Hi,

    Noob here.

In Kubuntu 10.04 I cannot see my wired connection in the connection manager. Here is what I see when I right-click on the tray icon:

When I click on Manage Connections I see this:

It is the same if I use Settings>Network Settings.

Networking seems to work perfectly otherwise.

It doesn't record it in the Connection manager and you need to hover your mouse cursor over the tray icon's resulting screen (Where it says "Auto eth0") when you click on it. See my screen-shot here:

Yes, hovering will display the details but does not allow me to manage the connection. I need to change my DNS servers.

Ahhhh! OK. Go to the Connections Manager. Under the "Wired' TAB click on "Add". In the Ethernet TAB from the resulting screen is where you control settings for which interface. Choose "Wired Ethernet". Under the "IP Address" TAB is where you set all of your settings for the Wired Ethernet including the DNS. You need to change "Method:" to "Manual". In the area above the TABs be sure to have the choice box next to "Connect Automaticaly" checked. Hope this helps! If not, let us know.

        Cheers!

I guess I'm missing something. The "Add" button creates a new connection. I need to change the eth0 connection, but it is not listed.

If you really wish to use knetworkmanager to manage the nic, you should edit /etc/network/interfaces and remove the stanza that refers to eth0

              contents of /etc/network/interfaces

              Code:
              auto lo
              iface lo inet loopback

No. You need to use ADD. It will know to apply those settings to your wired Ethernet. At least it supposed to.
