    setting a default application

    Hello,

I am using Kubuntu 6.06 with KDE and would like to change some of the default applications, e.g. instead of Konqueror, I would like Firefox.
In the forums people point to changing this over "KMenu -> System Settings -> User Account". This doesnt work for me, in user account, all I have is a path section and personal information.
Where can I change my applications elsewhere?

    Thank you,
    Jenny

I presume you are using Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake)? If so, go to System Settings > KDE Components > Default Applications. Among the choices, you will see "Web Browser". Choose "in the following browser" and type "firefox %u" (without the quotes) in the text input below it. That should work.

What about for other app's like opening mp3's with xmms?

        Or Mplayer for avi's?

        ------------

        Edit: here's the answer ...

In Konqueror highlight the selected file.

Click 'edit', then 'edit file type'.

Highlight the app you'd like to start it with and move to the top of your
        application preference order.

Another way to do it is from Konqueror > Settings > Configure Konqueror > File Associations and type in the file type you are looking for and edit the order preference.
