Hii all.. what is this nepomuk stuff all about.. have googled a lot about it... read lot of articles but just dont seem to understand ,all I get to know is that it makes searching easier on your computer.. but then was searching for something on your system ever tough

No it has not. There has been / There are separate applications that are making data searching easy. The biggest change is that the Nepomuk/Strigi is now part of the default KDE/Kubuntu installation.


What's possible with Nepomuk/Strigi - Few standalone applications

- If the Strigi is enabled it is possible to do keyword search with the Dolphin/KRunner.

There are standalone applications for this, picking one > Recoll KDE-Apps.org. It is in the repositories.

- Dolphin's Information panel can show the exif information if the image file has been indexed by the Nepomuk (and strigi).

Note
The nepomuk/strigi is reading the jpeg resolution information from the "ExifIFD". It doesn't understand other markings (IFD0 et.al)

Other options > Exif information context menu

- Dolphin's Information panel can show the metadata information of the file (mp3). If the file information is in the Nepomuk database.

Hmm. Installed this a few minutes ago. Typing locate:akonadi in Konqueror takes me to the Web - it does not perform the locate on my system. I even rebooted. Same thing. Opened Dolphin and typed locate:akonadi and got: invalid protocol

What's up with that Rog?

The KDE can't find the protocol/desktop files. At here, Kubuntu 10.04:

If you have the protocol, desktop and the executable (lib) try to log out - log in.

Nice! I just love 'extras' that provide enhanced functionality of existing utilities. Just installed kio-locate.
