    Need some more info ...
What is the make and model of PC that you are attempting to install Karmic on? How are you connected to the Internet?

        Re: K 9.10 AMD64 install snafu

In Googling your box I noticed that lots of people have had trouble booting LiveCD or even installing various versions of Linux.

A possible suggestion: Download and burn a LiveCD of Ubuntu Karmic or Lucid and see if either of those LiveCDs boot and run, especially the Lucid Lynx version. IF it does you could install it and then use Synaptic to install KDE4 and then switch to it as your DE. A back door approach.

Meanwhile, consider the meaning of this report and what it may suggest as to the stability of any version of Linux you might get installed. I don't know that the MSI BIOS in your box is one of those that used the booby trapped BIOS, but it is worth a check to make sure it is or isn't. Check the name and version of the BIOS revealed during the boot up and compare it with the information in the URL above.

Notice that "this" is blued and is a URL link. When you hover your mouse over it your mouse icon changes to a finger pointing, meaning that you can click on it and it will open your browser to the page it references.

Didn't see the color, nor did a cursory mouse sweep trigger a visual cue.
              (Excuse flag on)
              I am visually impaired, too.

              Blame "Simple Machines".

              Looks like FoxConned me.
              Blech.

              [UPDATE]
Loaded LiveCD of 32 bit Kubuntu successfully.
              Logged in without a problem.
Am currently downloading upgrades / applications.

Do not know why 64 bit K went casters up.

This qualifies as part of the install snafu - I think.
I booted K 9.10 32 bit version, and the login screen showed teeny fonts *(unreadable).

                Has anyone experienced THAT bug?

That gave me visions of R2D2 flipping onto his dome, "casters up"
