Wireless did work, now it is not detected

Okay so last nite i install Kubuntu on my Dell XPS m1710 laptop. It has done a pretty good job on it. I like it so far. I used the Wireless Assistant to connect to my wireless network. I typed in the WEP key. All was well. So today i turn it on. click wireless assistant. and now my wireless device is not detected. "No usable wireless devices were found." it says. so ive been browsing this forum site for a hour or two and i didnt see anyone that had this problem yet. last nite the ifconfig showed my wireless device as eth1. now it does not show that device. Thanks.

Hi,

You should see some messages about your card in dmesg and even by lspci, you should see your device (or not). Some people has to reboot few times and it's working back. This is usually due to a lack in /etc/iftab, but I don't believe it's your case.
What is also giving ifconfig -a ?

well i have restarted my laptop many times. im not sure what to look for when i use dmesg or lspci. should i just install ndiswrapper? cuz i really dont want to do that. lol.

in dmesg and lspci you should find informations about your card type... And surely error messages explaining why it's not working...
If you know what is your card, you can check in ubuntu wiki to see if it's supported without ndiswrapper

i just reinstalled it and so far the wireless is working. if it messes up on my again i dont know what the problem is.

lol just my luck. it was running just fine. i dont know why after it was working so good. Now it cannot detect the wireless interface. would you believe that. is there something i need to do to make sure it detects it, if so that how?

In your place I would fill a bug report, it's really weird problem...
