    not able to unzip (solved)

    hi guys..
recently i downloaded a Simple Video Converter from sourceforge
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/svideoconverter/
right clicked on downloaded file.. and clicked extract here.
no matter what i do.. i am not able to extract the downloaded file.
    what am i doing wrong.

moreover...if anyone knows the best settings for video playback (Nokia N97) that i can use to convert the video file using winff..then please tell me.
    thanks...

    Re: not able to unzip

    I found this, might help:

    http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-u...iles-in-linux/

I also noted that there are 3 other files needed with your converter perhaps there is a dependency issue?

That's as technical as I get.

Ark opened the file just fine - I just did it. You didn't say what you tried to do that failed.

Whats winff There are literally dozens of ways to convert video files formats using linux uttilities. I suggest you do some web searching.

WinFF is a GUI for the command line video converter, FFMPEG. It will convert most any video file that FFmpeg will convert. WinFF does multiple files in multiple formats at one time. You can for example convert mpeg's, flv's, and mov's, all into avi's all at once. WinFF is available for Windows 95, 98 , ME, NT, XP, VISTA, and Debian, Ubuntu, Redhat based GNU/Linux distributions.

thanks leadwt.. that will be helpful for me.
but this particular file i mentioned is not a bin file.

@oshunluvr: after left clicking on that file. the file opens in Ark. But i will have to extract the file to some folder.. in order to get the bin folder and .jar file..right? or is there any workaround?

Yeah, just extract it to your home. Ark will automatically offer to create a new folder for the extracted files so they'll be easy to find. The default behavior is Ark will create a folder using the same name as the original archive name and extract all the files into it. You can, if you wish, select individual files from the archive and rename the target folder.

I usually just allow ark to do the default and rename or delete whatever I want after.

                Re: not able to unzip

So you get to the "Extract All Files" dialog and when you click OK nothing happens?

Try running ark from the command line so you can see error output>

                open a terminal
                type ark and enter
navigate to the file in question and click on it and try again
If it fails again you should see some output in the terminal window

Are you sure you have permission to read the file and write into your target directory?

                  Re: not able to unzip

                  ok.. i opened terminal.
typed ark. ark window opened. browsed to that file i downloaded.
opened it. ark displayed all the files it had..like jar, txt and folders bin and lib.
but once again when i extracted to a folder. nothing happend.
neither the files are extracted. nor terminal window displayed any warning/error.

and yes.. i am sure i have permission to read file and also to write into target file.

dont mind.. but could you plz see if that file gets extracted in your comp.. just to countercheck..
                  just 8mb..

                    Re: not able to unzip

Must be something weird with the file or ark -

I downloaded it, attempted to extract it the default way - no luck.

I manually created a new folder and extracted into it - success.
