    Questions about Wubi/Kubuntu in general

    I'm going to make 10GB of space on my hard drive to test Kubuntu which will exist with my current Windows XP installation. Here's my main 3 concerns: can I download the .iso file via torrent? My internet is prone to small stoppages and that can screw up the file. Next, when/if I uninstall Kubuntu, will it take out the boot option as well? My friend tried Wubi and said he couldn't remove it after he uninstalled Ubuntu. Finally, Wubi says that I only have 224MB of RAM and 256MB is recommended. Should I try and go ahead with the install?

    Finally, how much does Kubuntu differ from Ubuntu in terms of wireless connectivity? I was able to connect to my network with an Ubuntu LiveCD.

    Thanks for the help, I'm trying to decide if I should go with Kubuntu or a Windows OS when I buy my new netbook (it'll have 160GB and more RAM )

    The March 19th Lucid Lynx Beta 1 of the Netbook edition torrent is available here. Check the md5sum here.

    From that site:
    Netbook live CD

    The live CD allows you to try Kubuntu Netbook Edition without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This live CD is optimized for netbooks with screens up to 10". You will need at least 256MB of RAM to install from this CD.
    As you noted, 256MB are required. I don't know if the LiveCD would install with less but the folks who made it should know, and they say you'll need AT LEAST 256MB. Personally, I would NOT install it unless you can boost your memory to make at least 256MB available.

    GNOME and KDE use different tools and approaches to Internet connectivity. Personally, I would use the wicd Internet connection app.

    It's obvious your desired netbook will have more RAM, but you haven't said what it's make and model are. That is IMPORTANT information which you should supply.

      Well, the specs I gave you were for my PC that I use right now (I was planning to move most of my stuff that the netbook for everyday computing and then use this computer for "experiments.") So I guess I'll have to hold off on a test drive...

      I was looking at a $400 netbook for a while but I found this baby for much cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B002P3KMYO

      That's probably what I'm going to get.

        You may glean some info from this topic and this one.

        $279 seems like a good price, but from what I've read you should upgrade to 2GB of RAM.

        There is a Linux distro derived from Ubuntu, made specifically for the Eee PC, called Eeebuntu.

          Uhm... I'm running on a PC with 224MB of RAM. I can survive with 1GB
