[SOLVED] kpackageit error after trying to install Java?

I tried installing Java though kpackageit last night and it seems to be installing fine but then the install stopped and the package manager shut down?

Now when i open the manager again it says that there are errors and that i now need to install a more advanced package manager? I am at work at the moment so dont know the exact error message but that is the gist of of.

I am using Kubuntu 9.1 with KDE4 and i am wondering whether the version of Java i tried installed was incorrect? Is there nothing inbuilt in Kubuntu to 'rewind' like Windows offers?

Any help would be much appreciated, i cant even seem to instal any of these 'advanced' package managers.

Sun Java requires you to accept a licence agreement. Unfortunately, kpackagekit does not know how to handle it. Install it from the command line instead:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
    or
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

      Cheers for the reply.

Once i have tried installing Java from the command line, will kpackageit start working again? Because to instal Java changes are made to alterative programs and im worried these will now be corrupted?

        skunk,

I have tried what you suggested but i get the following and don't know what to try next?

        slimj@charli2na:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
        [sudo] password for slimj:
        Reading package lists... Done
        Building dependency tree
        Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
sun-java6-javadb: Depends: sun-java6-jdk (= 6-15-1) but it is not going to be installed
sun-java6-jre: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-15-1) but it is not going to be installed or
ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6-15-1) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: gsfonts-x11 but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Also when posting, how do i get the code into a separate box? thanks

What happens if you type in the suggested command in the error message
          Code:
          sudo apt-get -f install

            Skunk,

I tried as you suggested and ran the install and seemed to be working fine.
The problem is it then brings up the terms and conditions within terminal and i have no way of accepting them? I obviously can't click 'ok' and there is no where to type?

I then tried to do this process again and i now get...

' E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it? '

            Cheers for the help

Press the spacebar multiple times until you reach the end of the agreement. Then answer yes. Then it will work.

Re: kpackageit error after trying to install Java?

To make sure your package manager is OK, close KPackagekit, open a Konsole and

                  Code:
                  sudo dpkg --configure -a
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get update
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get clean

Now, if you like KPackageKit, then OK, but if you want a more intuitive graphical package management front end:

                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get install synaptic
and while you have the Konsole open

                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
When it stops, you can use the "Tab" key to highlight the "I accept" or "OK" or whatever it says to accept the Sun license, then press "Enter" and it will continue and finish the installation.
