    Screwed up kwinrc no desktop

Kubuntu wigged out got it up but when I finally got it so I could login to the GUI the desktop is completely black. I can use ALT-F2 to start programs up and similar things but trying to figure this out. I went and edited kwinrc and rebooted, it didn't work and when I went back in the only thing left was version. Currently this is what I have (this I know wasn't what I had I just copied a few settings I have found on the internet):

    [$Version]
    update_info=kwin_focus2.upd:kwin_focus2,kwin_focus 1.upd:kwin_focus1,kwin3_plugin.upd:kde3.2,kwin.upd :kde3.0r1,kwin.upd:kde3.2Xinerama,kwin_on_off.upd: kwin_on_off

    (with the KDE 4)

Kubuntu wigged out got it up but when I finally got it so I could login to the GUI the desktop is completely black. I can use ALT-F2 to start programs up...
This sounds a plasma problem - the KDE 4 desktop is made a plasma objects. If the plasma can't start or is crashing then you (could) get a black desktop. You could use applications that are not using the plasma. > Topic: Plasma, plasmoids and short how to recover

I went and edited kwinrc and rebooted, it didn't work and when I went back in the only thing left was version..
The KDE configuration files (~/.kde/share/config/...) can be reset to the defaults by renaming (removing) the correct confuguration file when the application (KDE) is not running. The KDE reads some of the settings to the memory when the KDE is started and writes them back when the KDE is shut down. To reset the whole KDE:

Log out - When you are in the login screen - don't login - press: Ctrl + Alt + F1.
    This should start virtual console.

Login in the text mode. After you are in, rename your existing kde folder:
    Code:
    mv /home/<username>/.kde /home/<username>/kdebackup
Press: Ctrl + Alt + F7. Now you should be in the graphical login screen. Login and KDE should build new Kubuntu/KDE desktop with default settings.

Your old kde settings are in the kdebackup folder.

    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Re: Screwed up kwinrc no desktop

Ah, cool thanks. I'll try when I get home. I was looking for a backup file for it but couldn't find a thing. I'm thinking it bugged out after I either updated to 4.4.2 or when I tried to update my wubi to Kubuntu beta like a tard.

I think my next step will be to just make a partition on my drive for Kubuntu or make a Kubuntu USB disk so it will be slightly easier to fix.

I'll post my results later on or tomorrow when I have a chance to muck with it.
