I installed an app, now how to find it?

    I installed 'simplebackup' from kpackagekit.

It did not show up (that I can find) in the "Start Menu" (what is that called in Kubuntu?)

How can I find this executable and add it to the menu?

    The "simplebackup"

    Simple backup tool

The included script performs a nice and easy file based backup. It
can easily be extended to include database dumps or save the output
from `fdisk -L` and other things as well.
    It is a script.

    man simplebackup
    NAME
simplebackup - do a simple backup of your data

    SYNOPSIS
    simplebackup [-h] [conffile]

    DESCRIPTION
Simplebackup generates a .tar.bz2 archive of the paths specified in the configuration. Additional data (like bootsectors, partiton layout, database dumps etc.) can be added to the archive by adding corresponding shell commands to the configuration
    file.

    OPTIONS
-h Prints a simple help text.

conffile The location of the configuration file to use. If not specified, simplebackup will look in
    ~/.simplebackup.conf.

    Adding things to the Menu

    K > Applications > Help > Application Manuals > Settings > Menu Editor
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

      Thanks Rog131.
That was helpful on both points.

Can someone recommend a good nightly/weekly backup software?

I would just use cron but I want to do some very selective folder filtering that would be cumbersome in a script.

Is there a good gui-based, lightweight backup app that is good?

A lot of people have had good experiences with Keep, the default KDE backup daemon. Give it a shot and let us know.

          my post there:
          I installed Keep backup software:
          1. Where can I find help?
          2. It sets intervals but what time of day does it run?
          3. In final Edit screen there is a check box to "Exclude Special Files". What does this mean?
          4. Is Keep widely recommended?

          Thanks!
