    Drawing a blank... PAR utility

Isn't there a utility called "kpar" that is a graphical KDE utility that handles par files? I tried installing it (apt-get, synaptic), and my system doesn't know what I'm talking about.

If Synaptic doesn't find it, so believe, it is not in repository. Try gpar2 package instead.

      par2

Description: Parity Archive Volume Set, for checking and repair of files
A command line implementation of the PAR v2.0 specification. This
specification is used for parity checking and repair of a file set.
If the files in the recovery set ever get damaged (e.g. when they are
transmitted or stored on a faulty disk) the client can read the damaged
input files, read the (possibly damaged) PAR files, and regenerate the
original input files. Of course, not all damages can be repaired, but
      many can.
According to my simulated install, it is available.

FINALLY found what I was looking for....

Kpar2 is a utility that doesn't seem installable in KDE 4.x. Or has anyone gotten it to work?

maybe here? looks like you might have to compile it.

I am wondering what a gui does for you with pars? I have always just installed par2 and used the par2repair command. Associate the par2 files with par2repair command and run in terminal leaving the window up after the command completes. It seems the same to me except it uses the fast terminal window instead of a slow gui. Maybe Kpar helps you make par files?
