Re: wireless problem
Welcome!
You are completely new? Okay.
First thing to do is to find out if your wireless is detected.
In a terminal (quickest way to access this is to hit alt+F2 and type konsole in the resulting box) type
Code:lspci

Re: wireless problem
Kirkland:
For the card that you have (Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) you'll need to download the driver from here: http://intellinuxwireless.org/
If you require help installing the driver (ie if the website is not clear for you), post a message back.

Re: wireless problem
I'll try.
You have a Broadcom ethernet controller. Click on K > Applications > System > Hardware Drivers. When the scan is complete, you likely will be shown the driver for the Broadcom controller. Click on it and click the Enable button.
I might be completely off base, but ....Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Re: wireless problem
Thanks for that Snowhog.
Unfortunately when I go to K > Applications > System > There is no Hardware Drivers category??
I have searched through all the menu options and find no way to access Hardware Driver options!!Purchased new Linux Netbook EeePc 701SD (Oct 09) <br />CE900 CPU, 8GB SSD & 2GB (DDR2 800) RAM - Xandros Full desktop <br />+ Eeebuntu 3 Base on 4GB SD, Puppeee 3.4 on 2GB SD<br />New to Linux (Oct 09) - Keen to learn

Re: wireless problem
That's not a problem.
K > Applications > System > Software Sources
Check Proprietary drivers for devices (restricted) and Close. The package cache will be updated. Open a console and type:
Code:sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Thanks again Snowhog.
This seems rather strange but I can't locate Software Sources either - am I doing something stupid??Purchased new Linux Netbook EeePc 701SD (Oct 09) <br />CE900 CPU, 8GB SSD & 2GB (DDR2 800) RAM - Xandros Full desktop <br />+ Eeebuntu 3 Base on 4GB SD, Puppeee 3.4 on 2GB SD<br />New to Linux (Oct 09) - Keen to learn

Re: wireless problem
Hmm. I guess I should have asked what version of Kubuntu you are using, and what version of KDE too.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Re: wireless problem
Thanks again Snowhog
I have Kubuntu 9.10 - this is being run on a HP 6730b laptop.
Kubuntu is installed to and running from an external HDD.
KDE version = 4.3.2
Now this seems somewhat bizarre but when I looked today for Applications > System > Hardware Drivers it was there (was I just blind yesterday?) however, there is still no sign of Software Sources??
I clicked on Hardware Drivers and it told me that "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"?

Re: wireless problem
Snowhog - I really appreciate you patience and time with me and this problem, thank you.
OK - I ran - kdesudo software-properties-kde and launched Software Sources
I checked Proprietary drivers for devices (restricted) and Closed
The package upgraded
I ran - sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
And got the following result -
bwatts@kubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
[sudo] password for bwatts:

Re: wireless problem
I would really appreciate more help with this -
Snowhog has helped heaps but nothing has worked yet.
I rather like the look of Kubuntu as one to keep but it is the only OS that I can't connect to my wireless- either on my HP laptop or on my EEE netbook (with netbook remix).
Being new to Linux I am lost on this and have no idea how to get this running - surely it can't be that hard when all other OS's connect so easily.Purchased new Linux Netbook EeePc 701SD (Oct 09) <br />CE900 CPU, 8GB SSD & 2GB (DDR2 800) RAM - Xandros Full desktop <br />+ Eeebuntu 3 Base on 4GB SD, Puppeee 3.4 on 2GB SD<br />New to Linux (Oct 09) - Keen to learn

Re: wireless problem
Wotnot:
Since, from looking at the previous posts, you seem to have the driver installed, and the card shows up in your PCI list. I guess the next thing would be to check if the driver (kernel module) is being loaded.
In a terminal (like Konsole) type:
lsmod | grep wlan
and post the output here
