    Extended Monitor for Laptop

    Hey guys...
    i am new to this forum and this is my first message.
    "hello to all".
    OK... Now..
    I got my laptop upgraded from 9.04 UBUNTU to 9.10 KUBUNTU.
    but could never get my plasma TV (1024x768) enabled as an extended monitor using 15pin VGA cord.
    My laptop has a Intel 1.5 GHz Centrino mobile processor with 1GB RAM, 64 shared graphics RAM.
    when i do the key combination F1+F5 (to toggle screens) both my TV and Laptop screens go black and the OS doesn't response.
    What would the problem? Any clue or hint for this.
    please help this new comer and new user of LINUX.

    Re: Extended Monitor for Laptop

    Lots of possible reasons for this. First and foremost - identify the video card in your system and make sure you are using the correct driver AND that it supports dual monitors. MANY older (2 yrs ago) video cards have dual output but can only display one monitor at a time.

    Assuming yours can run two monitors at once>>>

    boot up without the external connected, make a copy of your config and log files
    re-boot with the external connected, make a copy of your config and log files

    then re-configure x with the external connected and copy of your config and log files again.

    Compare the file and look for warnings and errors.

    FILES:
    config = /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    log = /var/log/Xorg.0.log

    To reconfigure x:
    In a terminal type: "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"
