SOLVED: No Sound at All in Kubuntu 9.10

    Hi All,
I'm sorry to post what may seem a redundant problem, but I've read through all the posts I can find on the subject, yet nothing has helped. Since I have posted here in the past with great success, I'm hoping that you can help again.
I am running Kubuntu 9.10 on a Toshiba Satellite M-45, and I have no sound or mic at all--not in the start-up tone, not in the browsers, not in any video player (Kaffeine, VLC or Dragon Player), not even in Skype. I have read though the various postings on several different sites, yet nothing has solved my problem. At one point, I even manage to make it worse by somehow deleting my boot menu--a debacle I hope not to repeat.

    1) I have removed all pulse audio--at least I'm pretty sure I have
    2) I have checked everything in alsamixer, nothing is muted.
    3) I have checked kmix, nothing is muted there
    4) I even tried reverting to an older kernel, which is how I inadvertently deleted the boot menu (I'm very new to Linux)
    5) After using the command aplay -l in the terminal, I get the following, which seems to indicate that my sound card is at least recognized, but I don't know what steps to take from here. Please help, but I ask that you be as specific and as clear as possible because I am just learning my way around Linux. Thank you!

I found this posting about resetting alsa and tried it...it worked perfectly--sound and mic are functioning beautifully!
