    Install Netscape Navigate 4.7x

If you want some of what I've been smoking, I'll share!

Can anyone help me find/install Netscape Navigator 4.7x on Karmic 9.10? I have obtained an old router that the ONLY browser that I can read is compatible is Navigator 4.7x. I've tried the gambit with everything I can install on Kubuntu, and nothing responds.

    Two comments:

    1) Have you tried the current Kubuntu version of Firefox (3.5.6) with your router? AFAIK the technology of routers may have changed but internet protocols have not. Therefore, the new Ff should work at least as well as the old. Why can't you use it? What happens when you try?

    2) A new router can be had for something less than $50(US). I assume a used one would be even cheaper (especially at a swap meet), although I haven't tried to find one.

Concur with al but if you really want to give it a go it would seem to be available here

      http://browser.netscape.com/releases

However, please bear in mind that 4.7 seems to be designed for the 2.2 kernel so it's pot luck as to whether it will run at all. Also bear in mind that there is no support for this any more, and it's likely to contain security risks that have been fixed years ago in Firefox.

Also, are you running the user agent switcher extension in FF (it's in the repos) which you can use to fool websites that you are running something else. One of the default alternative agents is netscape 4.8 which you can edit to show 4.7. That might just be enough to fool the router, and I would say that should be the first thing you try, if you haven't already.

After fidgeting with it for a bit, I decided on another approach.

I downloaded Netscape 4.79 for Windows and installed it in Wine. It works, I can access the router, AND keep my linux installation untouched.

        Thanks for the ideas!!
