    wine installation (solved)

wine is present in kubuntu repository already.
but in the FAQ topic it was mentioned to use "http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ binary"

Q1. if i add this entry to sources list, from where will the wine get installed? kubuntu repository or sourceforge?

Q2. I am using 64bit processor. on wine site, they were not quite confident of using 64bit wine.. is anyone using 64bit wine have any problem? should i install 32bit wine instead then?

    Re: wine installation

i think u should use the one that is in the repository, it will be better and easier to install, just choose the 64 bit architecture (not the x86 , thats for 32 bits). And if u got 64 bits i recommend u to install the 64 one, will run better with your computer and wont make it slow....

      Re: wine installation

Also, for Karmic, there is a wine ppa repository.

      See here for details.

      http://www.winehq.org/download/deb

The version of wine available there will be a bit more cutting edge than the one in the main repos. This can be better for some applications. Your mileage may vary.

        Re: wine installation

ok. I installed the version that was in kubuntu repository.
and it is working fine with many of exe files.
just that.. i have a small app which needed .NET 2.0 framework in windows XP.
(it is very small app.. just a contact manager which i coded in C#)

when i try to run that file from konsole.. i get this o/p:
install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
is there no workaround? that mono software is of 75MB
        or should i use winetricks?

          Re: wine installation

hey guys i could start my application now

          Here is what i did.
          1. Installed wine
          2. Installed Mono for windows
          3. Installed winetricks
          4. Installed gdiplus (to get the fonts)

that's it.. now the application does not require .NET framework 2.0

          Thanks for your support 8)
