Hello all. I have absolutely no technical background in computers and am completely new to Linux and Kubuntu and although I successfully installed Kubuntu, I am having major problems trying to establish basic applications: my knetwork manager tries to activate my Eth0 connection, but it failed every time. I am also having trouble using Dragon video player, KB torrent, and Amorak, with Kubuntu telling me that they need packages installed. Lastly, I tried installing Firefox, only to have Kubuntu tell me that the package was already installed, and yet I cannot find Firefox at all! Please send me your feed back as soon as possible!

Re: Getting Started with Kubuntu
Hey there,
I'm pretty new to the linux / kubuntu scene as well, and i also experienced a few similar problems with dragon player, amarok etc. (although my internet connection worked fine from the get go).
I think that most of your problems are probably just due to a need to do a bit more research. If you're moving over from windows there's already a wealth of information that can explain how to go about getting the right codecs etc. to get amorok, dragon player working. I'd suggest that you start by having a look under : documentation / how to's in order to get a better grounding.
also, there are heaps of other options to amarok - which i find a bit pointless personally - dragon player (i use mplayer but there are plenty of options) and KBtorrent. if you can't get one working it's often an easier solution to just download something else (using the package manager). that, of course, is dependent on you getting your internet working, which hopefully someone can help you with (but once again have a look around because the answer's probably already on this site...)
good luck.

Also what does the output of this command. Here's mine as an example:
