    Backspace in Firefox [SOLVED]

I'll start off by stating I'm not an IE hater. One of the features I'm a fan of is using the <backspace> to go back a page. I can't seem to figure out how to do this in Firefox. I'm on a laptop and I'd find it much easier to just hit a backspace as opposed to navigating the touchpad to the back arrow.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jimbo

    Re: Backspace in Firefox

I've never used IE, but 5 other browsers (including FF) currently running on this machine all use Alt-Leftcursor to go back a page. Funny IE doesn't do that too - I guess they just want to be different.

      You're right. That does work.

Is there a way for me to tell FF that <backspace> does the same thing? (one button vs two)

      Thanks again

I don't know. I just looked in "about:config" and don't see anything. Maybe someone else knows or try the FF forum.

I'd be surprised if there isn't an extension for it

Well, I went looking but didn't see anything right off the bat. However, there is one called DisableBackspaceNavigation 0.3 . Now that's funny.

                Re: Backspace in Firefox

So it was in about:config after all. Great!

I'm just wondering how I go back a page if I was writing something like this for example. Presumably some other key (or combination) needs to be set so that one still has the ability to backspace without going back a page. I could imagine that IE uses tabs to get around that problem.

Ole Juul, you can just tab out of the text editing field and then use backspace.

Thanks Telengard, usability is a very important issue for me, so I like to know how people do things.

                          @ Ole Juul,

In order to type this out and backspace over what you wrote, as long as you have a cursor in your typing window, you won't go back a page. You would have to click outside the typing window for the go-back-a-page function to work.

                          Cheers,

                          Jimbo
