Just installed Kubuntu ( the first time i've tried any Linux distribution), and initially was able to access the internet. After rebooting I am unable to get online again. My router shows the laptop it was installed on as a client, but I am completly lost on what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible that you have Davicom / tulip troubles. You don't say which NIC chipset you have, but the symptom sounds similar.
Check for your NIC chipset using the 'lspci' command and check the Ethernet entry.
