    video player crashing

    i just reinstalled kubuntu afresh.
following was brief sequence of my actions:
    fresh installation of kubuntu
    updated kubuntu through KPacketManager
updated amarok, installed vlc, (checked if video file can be played... it was working fine)
    restarted the computer
and now none of the video file (.avi, .flv, .wmv, .mp4) is playable

mp3 can be played in vlc.. but video file can't be. vlc is crashing as soon as it opens video file.
also in konqueror, i was able to play file.. but now instead of video.. the desktop is shown in that area.

how do i know what is causing this problem?
(This is the second time in a day i have reinstalled kubuntu.. and same problem again.. lemme tell that at first it was working well.. i don't know what triggered me to reinstall well working kubuntu )

    Re: video player crashing

    i tried tracing problem backward.
removed cairo-dock from startup menu.. and now video is playing
i don't know what is causing problem .. and have no idea to trace the error log of system..
but for time being i have removed the cairo-dock. to enjoy movie.
do tell me how to trace the error log of system though.
    thanks...

What the applications are telling ? - error messages ?

      Example - with the vlc.

Start the vlc in the konsole:
      Code:
      vlc /path/to/the/clip.avi
      or/and
      Code:
      vlc --verbose 2 /path/to/the/clip.avi

      -verbose is (vlc --help)
      -v, --verbose <integer> Verbosity (0,1,2)
This is the verbosity level (0=only errors and standard messages, 1=warnings, 2=debug).
